I m having floating flooring installed in my 1988 mobile home tomorrow in the kitchen and living room. Newer mobile homes will either use a better particle board or oriented strand board osb. Mobile home experts tells us how to replace paint and insulate osb subfloors. 1 st the base sub floor of these homes are prone to movement or future sagging.

So if anyone has heard negative things about floating flooring in mobile homes ill post pictures as to put your mind at ease. Newer mobile homes will have it a little better than older ones. This is not a job for someone that has never used a hammer. 2 nd the sub floors are usually made of a particle type board a high quality board though not designed for a lasting nail hold of traditional nail down hardwood floorings.

Although the subfloor for many manufactured homes is made from pressed board we like to use a quality plywood for the replacement material. The material of your sub flooring will play a big factor when deciding to install tile. To replace flooring in a mobile home you will need experience in construction. Both of these materials used for flooring are much better in regards to water resistance.

If you cut it as close as possible to the wall with a razor cutter there won t be any big mess. The company doing it works on mobile homes in my area all the time and come highly recommended. Mobile home construction is different enough from that of stick build homes that you will want to research the best materials for the job. However even homes with these newer flooring materials the floors can still bow soften and warp.

The material acts like a sponge and soaks up water. On a scale of 1 to 10 i would rank it a 7 because no specialty tools are required and the material list is short but it is a tedious job and it must be done right. Floating floors are ideal for mobile homes for two reasons. The original carpet is installed before the walls are set in place.

The cheaper particle board sub floor that is so notorious in manufactured housing is not a good foundation for tile.
